A city in the inland of the Republic of South Africa, on the western outskirts of Johannesburg. Population 103,000 (1980). It is also the commercial center of a mining region where gold, manganese, asbestos, uranium, etc. are mined. The city is named after Kruger (1825-1904), who was the president of the Transvaal Republic, but it is close to Johannesburg, which could be called the economic capital of southern Africa, and does not have any special features worth mentioning.
