Byzantion

...Population: 7,616,000 (1994). In ancient Greece and Rome it was known as Byzantion, Byzantium, and in the Byzantine period as Constantinopolis, and in Turkish it is called Istanbul. The English name of Constantinopolis, Constantinople, is also widely used as an old name.
