Mid-Edo period, Ukiyo-zoshi by Ihara Saikaku Published in 1688. Six volumes and six books. The preface reads "The True Image of Bushido," and it consists of 26 tales that depict the samurai's sacrificial spirit who abandoned their sense of duty. This is Saikaku's masterpiece of "samurai stories," which he reached after "Nanshiyoku Ookagami" and "Budo Denraiki."
