Pawtucket

Japanese: ポータケット（英語表記）Pawtucket

A city in the northwest of Rhode Island, USA. It is located on the Blackstone River, adjacent to the city limits of Providence. The name means "waterfall" in the Algonquin Indian language. An ironworks was established here in 1671, and the first Arkwright spinning machine in the United States was produced there at the end of the 18th century. Currently, there are factories producing textiles, dyeing, spindles, and other related products. Population 72,644 (1990).

アメリカ合衆国，ロードアイランド州北西部にある都市。プロビデンスの市域に続き，ブラックストーン川河畔に位置する。地名はアルゴンキン・インディアンの言葉で「滝」の意。 1671年製鉄所が設立され，18世紀末アメリカ合衆国で最初のアークライト紡績機を生産。現在織布のほか，染色，紡錘などの関連工場がある。人口7万 2644 (1990) 。
