A system in which specialized jobs are managed and operated by professionals with the knowledge and skills required for that job. In the West, clergy, doctors, and lawyers have traditionally been considered professionals. These professionals perform their jobs autonomously, on the premise that their jobs are recognized by the outside world as being socially useful and that their members have been trained and have a certain level of knowledge and skills. To maintain the professional system, there are professional associations that are involved in certifying qualifications, as well as controlling their members and working to maintain the level of the profession.
