Album - Album (English)

A book that protects photographs, paintings, postage stamps, cards, etc. from damage or loss and allows them to be preserved for a long time. There are no standard sizes, but the Tokyo Album Industry Association specifies four types: 4-sheet, 6-sheet, 8-sheet, and cabinet. In addition to horizontal (Yamato-toji), vertical (Western-style binding), and square, there are also free-style types that can be adjusted to any thickness. The exterior, such as the cover, ranges from high-end products with lacquer enamel to inexpensive products made of paper leather, but the main materials are leather, cloth, cloth cloth, cloth leather, and vinyl. In the past, most albums had thick mounts, but in recent years, thinner ones have become more common. In general mounts, photos and other items are attached with glue or at the corners, but nowadays, most free albums use a method in which a special adhesive is applied to the mount and the photos are securely held in place by simply sandwiching them between the mount and the vinyl chloride covering.

写真、書画、郵便切手、カード類などの破損や紛失を防ぎ、長く保存できるようにした帳面。大きさは不統一であるが、東京アルバム工業組合では、四つ切り、六つ切り、八つ切り、キャビネの4種に規定している。形態は、横型（大和綴(やまとと)じ）、縦型（洋本綴じ）、角型のほか、任意の厚さに調節できるフリースタイルのものがある。表紙などの外装は、蒔絵(まきえ)を施した高級品から紙レザーの格安品まであるが、おもな材質は革、布、布クロス、布レザー、ビニルなどである。以前は厚い台紙のものが多かったが、近年は薄いものが増えてきている。一般の台紙は、写真などを糊(のり)またはコーナーを用いて貼(は)るが、現在では台紙に特殊接着剤を塗布し、それを覆う塩化ビニルとの間に写真を挟むだけで確実に押さえ込めるようになったフリーアルバムの方式がほとんどである。
