Born: June 29, 1879, Oryahovo Died July 17, 1959, Buenos Aires. Bulgarian politician. Professor of economics at Sofia University in 1910. Leader of the "National Entente", a group of right-wing military and business leaders. Opposed to the AS Stamboliski government, he staged a coup in June 1923 and became prime minister. He became internationally known for his harsh crackdown on leftists. In 1926, he resigned as prime minister and became speaker of parliament, and from 1930 to 1931, as Minister of Education, he contributed to the country's rapprochement with the Axis powers.
