Cryptococcus

Japanese: クリプトコックス（英語表記）Cryptococcus

It is a type of yeast and, like Candida, belongs to the group of asporogenous yeasts in the order Moniliales of the Fungi Imperfecti. It grows by budding, and the cells are surrounded by a capsule, and under certain conditions, starch-like polysaccharides may be formed in the capsule . It is not fermentative. Cryptococcus neoformans is a pathogenic bacterium that parasitizes humans and causes cryptococcosis. Cryptococcus neoformans is round and has a diameter of 4 to 8 μm excluding the capsule.

酵母の一つで，カンジダなどと同じく，不完全菌類モニリア目の無胞子酵母のグループに含まれる。出芽によって増殖し，細胞は莢膜（きようまく）に包まれていて，条件によっては莢膜にデンプン様の多糖類を形成することがある。発酵性はもっていない。クリプトコックス･ネオフォルマンスC.neoformansは，ヒトに寄生してクリプトコックス症を引き起こす病原菌である。このクリプトコックス･ネオフォルマンスは，円形をしており，莢膜を除くと4～8μmの直径をもっている。
