Montgomery Clift

American actor. Born in Nebraska. He made his Broadway debut in 1935 as a boy star, and was active on stage in the early 1940s as a talented handsome man. He entered the film world in 1948 with "Red River," and with his beautiful, richly colored looks and solid acting ability, he left behind some great performances in "A Place in the Sun" (1951), "From Here to Eternity" (1953), and "Wild Horse and Mistress" (1961).

アメリカの俳優。ネブラスカ州生まれ。1935年より少年スターとしてブロードウェーにデビュー、演技力の確かな二枚目として40年代前半は舞台で活躍した。48年に『赤い河』で映画界入りし、陰影に富んだ美貌(びぼう)と着実な演技力で、『陽(ひ)のあたる場所』(1951)、『地上(ここ)より永遠(とわ)に』(1953)、『荒馬と女』(1961)などに名演技を残す。
