1365‐1430? A French female writer of the late Middle Ages. Born in Venice. At the age of four, she was summoned by her father Thomas, who was an important astrologer to Charles V, and moved to France. At the age of 15, she married Étienne Castel, the king's notary and secretary, at his request, and had three children. During this time, the king, who was her father's patron, died, then her father, and then her husband died suddenly from the plague, and Christine thus became "alone" (her motto). She was 25 years old. In order to support her family, she decided not to take the usual path of remarrying, but to "become a man." Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
