An ancient South Indian dynasty. Taking advantage of the decline of the Satavahana dynasty in the early 3rd century, the Sarvathas rose up in the lower Krishna River basin in present-day Andhra Pradesh, established their capital near Nagarjunakonda, and developed the region. They transplanted the advanced culture of the Ganges basin to their empire, but were defeated by the Pallava dynasty in the early 4th century. The ruins of Nagarjunakonda show the prosperity of this dynasty. Source: Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia About Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia Information |
