Glazunov

Japanese:
Glazunov
Russian composer and conductor. Born to a pianist mother, he showed exceptional ear and memory skills from an early age, and studied composition under Rimsky-Korsakov through Balakirev's introduction. His Symphony No. 1 in E major, which he released at the age of 16, was performed in Weimar under the baton of F. Liszt, and gained him fame in Europe. He became a professor at the St. Petersburg Conservatory in his birthplace in 1899, and served as its director from 1905 to 1930. He influenced the younger generation of Russians and Soviets, including his student Shostakovich. After touring Western Europe, he settled in Paris in 1932 for health reasons, and died there. He is known for his profound style of composition, which combined the traditions of Russian music with the structural qualities of German music, and left behind works in many genres other than opera. His major works were concentrated by the beginning of the 20th century, including the masterpiece "Violin Concerto" (1903), which shows the mature style of late romanticism, the ballet music "Raymonda" (1898) and "The Four Seasons" (1900), commissioned by Petipa, as well as eight symphonies (1881-1905), two piano concertos, and seven string quartets (1882-1930). → Auer/Prince Igor → Related topics The Four Seasons (music) | Mariinsky Theatre | Les Sylphides
