A city in northern Hiroshima prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1954. The city is located in the center of the Miyoshi Basin, where tributaries of the Gonokawa River converge, and developed as a castle town of the Miyoshi clan after 1580. It is a strategic location connecting Izumo, Hiroshima, and Onomichi, and river traffic was also active. The Geibi Line, Fukuen Line, San'in Line, Chugoku Expressway, Matsue Expressway, and Onomichi Expressway pass through the city. With the development of a wide-area transportation network, transportation equipment, electrical and electronics industries have developed in recent years. Rice, fruit and flower cultivation, and livestock farming are carried out. There are over 3,000 ancient tombs scattered around the city, and it is blessed with tourist resources such as Ozekiyama Park, famous for its cherry blossoms, and cormorant fishing, which has a 400-year tradition. In April 2004, it merged with Kisa Town, Mirasaka Town, Miwa Town, Kimita Village, Nuno Village, and Sakugi Village in Futami District, and Konno Town in Konno District. ^778.14km2 . 56,605 people (2010).

広島県北部の市。1954年市制。市街は江の川(ごうのかわ)の支流が集まる三次盆地の中央にあり，1580年以後三吉氏の城下町として発展。出雲，広島，尾道の各地方を結ぶ要地で，河川交通も盛んであった。芸備線，福塩線，三江線，中国自動車道，松江自動車道，尾道自動車道が通じる。広域交通網の整備に伴い，近年は輸送用機器，電気・電子工業が発達する。米作，果樹・花卉(かき)栽培，畜産が行われる。3000基を超える古墳が点在し，桜で有名な尾関山公園，400年の伝統をもつ鵜飼など観光資源にも恵まれる。2004年４月双三郡吉舎町，三良坂町，三和町，君田村，布野村，作木村，甲奴郡甲奴町と合併。778.14km²。５万6605人（2010）。
