A major spinning company with a long history. Commonly known as Kurabo. Headquarters in Chuo-ku, Osaka. It began as Kurashiki Spinning Works Limited, established in 1888 in Kurashiki Village, Kuwaya County, Okayama Prefecture (now Kurashiki City). The first president was local businessman Ohara Koshiro. Ohara Magosaburo, who served as president from 1906 to 1939, was his second son. The company began producing cotton yarn in 1889, and changed its name to Kurashiki Spinning Co., Ltd. in 1893. It expanded through mergers and acquisitions, and by 1924 it had 200,000 spinning spinning machines. It also diversified its operations, establishing Kurashiki Silk (now Kuraray) in 1926 to enter the rayon business, and Kurashiki Woolen Mill in 1935 to enter the wool spinning and weaving business. 古い歴史を有する大手紡績会社。通称クラボウ。本社大阪市中央区。1888年岡山県窪屋郡倉敷村(現,倉敷市)に設立された有限責任倉敷紡績所に始まる。初代社長は地元の実業家大原孝四郎。1906‐39年社長をつとめた大原孫三郎は孝四郎の次男。1889年から綿糸生産を開始,93年に倉敷紡績(株)に社名を改めた。合併・買収等で規模を拡大し,1924年には精紡機20万錘を有するまでになった。また経営多角化をすすめ,26年に倉敷絹織(現,クラレ)を設立してレーヨンに,35年には倉敷毛織を設立して羊毛紡織に進出した。
