Otomo no Satehiko - Otomo no Satehiko

Date of birth and death unknown. A powerful clan leader and military commander in the mid-6th century. Son of Otomo no Kanamura. In 537 (2nd year of Emperor Senka), he traveled to Korea to rescue Mimana, which had been invaded by Silla, and is said to have pacified Mimana and saved Baekje. In 562 (23rd year of Emperor Kinmei), he led tens of thousands of soldiers to attack Goguryeo, obtaining various precious treasures that he presented to the Emperor and Soga no Iname. In the Matsuura County section of the Hizen no Kuni Fudoki and Volume 5 of the Manyoshu, there is a tale about Otohihimeko (Matsuura Sayohime), whom Satehiko married when he crossed the sea to Korea.

生没年不詳。6世紀中葉の豪族、武将。大伴金村(かなむら)の子。537年（宣化天皇2）、新羅(しらぎ)に侵略された任那(みまな)を救援するため朝鮮に渡り、任那を鎮め、百済(くだら)を救ったという。また562年（欽明天皇23）には、数万の兵を率いて高句麗(こうくり)を討ち、種々の珍宝を得て、天皇や蘇我稲目(そがのいなめ)に献上している。なお『肥前国風土記(ふどき)』松浦(まつら)郡条や『万葉集』巻5には、狭手彦が朝鮮渡海のときに娶(めと)った弟日姫子(おとひひめこ)（松浦佐用姫(まつらさよひめ)）をめぐる説話がみえる。
