Spider's Dance - Kumonohyoushimai

Japanese: 蜘蛛拍子舞 - くものひょうしまい

Kabuki dance piece. Original title: "Waseko Koiawasuchi." First performed at the Edo Nakamuraza in November 1781. It was created as a Shosagoto piece in "Shitennou to no inoki sewata." It is a dialogue between Osatsuma and Nagauta. Lyrics by Sakurada Jisuke I, music by Kineya Sakichi I, choreography by Fujima Kanbei. The spirit of the Jorogumo of Mount Katsuragi, disguised as the Shirabyoshi Tsuma Kiku, tries to obstruct Minamoto no Yorimitsu, but is able to reveal its true form thanks to the power of Hizamaru's sword. In the part where the swordsmiths run out, Yorimitsu and the other three dancers use the Hyoshimai dance. (→Hyoshimaimono)

歌舞伎舞踊曲。本名題『我背子恋合槌』。天明1 (1781) 年 11月江戸中村座初演。『四天王宿直着綿 (してんのうとのいのきせわた) 』のなかの所作事として作られた。大薩摩と長唄の掛合。作詞1世桜田治助，作曲1世杵屋佐吉，振付藤間勘兵衛。白拍子妻菊に化けた葛城山の女郎蜘蛛の精が，源頼光に障碍 (しょうげ) をなさんとするが，膝丸の太刀の威徳によって正体を現す。刀鍛冶尽しのくだりで頼光ら3人が踊るところに拍子舞が用いられている。 (→拍子舞物 )
