Kumonodaira - Cloud Flats

Takayama Plateau is located in Toyama City, in the southeastern corner of Toyama Prefecture. It is a lava plateau in the central part of the Northern Alps, formed by the troide-shaped Jiidake volcano (2,825 meters) at the source of the Kurobe River. It is marked as "Oonakahara" on an old map of the Kaga domain in the late Edo period. The name Kumonodaira is the name given to the Shinshu (Nagano Prefecture) side at the time of the survey of the 1:50,000 scale topographical map, and is also known as Okunohira. It is surrounded by the central Northern Alps mountains of Kurobegoro-dake, Mitsumatarenge-dake, Washiba-dake, and Suisho-dake, and is a plateau at an altitude of about 2,500 meters, bordered by the source of the Kurobe River and its tributary, Iwagoke-kotani. It is a different world with numerous ponds and what are called gardens formed everywhere by the arrangement of natural rocks. Takamagahara is a marshland along the rock-moss valley, and there is a colony of Asian skunk cabbage in the flowing water of the marshland between the Aomoritodomatsu and Pumila pines. Takamagahara Sanso is located on a small hill overlooking the marshland.

富山県南東端、富山市にある高山台地。黒部(くろべ)川源流にあるトロイデ状の祖父(じい)岳火山（2825メートル）によって形成された北アルプス中央部の溶岩台地。江戸後期の加賀藩の古図に「大中原」と記せられている。雲ノ平の名称は、5万分の1地形図の測量当時の信州（長野県）側名で、別名奥ノ平という。周囲は北アルプスの中央部の黒部五郎岳、三俣蓮華(みつまたれんげ)岳、鷲羽(わしば)岳、水晶岳などに囲まれ、黒部川源流とその支流岩苔(いわごけ)小谷に境された標高2500メートル前後の台地で、数多い池塘(ちとう)、天然の岩石の配置によるいわゆる庭園と称せられるものが至る所に形成されている別天地である。高天原(たかまがはら)は岩苔小谷に沿う湿地帯で、アオモリトドマツやハイマツの間の湿原の流水の溝にはミズバショウの群落がある。湿地に臨む小高い丘に高天原山荘がある。
