Kubiki [village] - Kubiki

Japanese: 頸城[村] - くびき

A village in Nakakubiki County, southern Niigata Prefecture. Population 9,010 (1995). It borders Joetsu City to the south. It is on the north bank of the Hokura River, and most of the village area is a low-lying lagoon area inside the Kubiki Sand Dunes. It is a newly developed rice-producing village that was converted into rice paddy fields by the Obuke Irrigation Canal excavated by the Takada Domain in 1638 (Kan'ei 15), and is at the heart of the grain-producing region in the northern part of the Takada Plain. In 1962 it was designated the first pilot area in Japan for the Agricultural Structure Improvement Project. In the northwest, Shin-Etsu Chemical, Mitsubishi Light Metals, and other companies are located, making it part of the Naoetsu coastal industrial area, and the Joetsu Techno Center is located in Nishi-Fukushima along the bypass of National Route 8, straddling Joetsu City.

新潟県南部，中頸城郡の村。人口9010(1995)。南は上越市に接する。保倉川北岸にあり，村域の大部分は頸城砂丘内側の低湿な潟湖地帯である。1638年(寛永15)高田藩によって開削された大瀁（おおぶけ）用水によって水田化された新田村で，高田平野北部の穀倉地帯の中心をなす。1962年には農業構造改善事業パイロット地区の全国第1号に指定された。北西部には信越化学，三菱軽金属などが立地して直江津臨海工業地域の一部をなし，国道8号線のバイパス沿いの西福島には上越市にまたがって上越テクノセンターが立地する。
