This earthen tomb is located in Xiayangtou, near Marudoseong (present-day Ji'an, Jilin Province, China), the capital of the mid-Goguryeo period. It has two stone chambers, a main chamber and an antechamber, and it is believed that two people were buried in the main chamber. The walls are plastered, but there are no murals. There is an ink-written epitaph on the upper wall at the front of the antechamber, which is believed to have originally been about 800 characters long, but only about 200 are currently legible. The inscription reads "Great Ambassador Mutulu," confirming that the tomb's owner was Mutulu. According to the epitaph, Mutulu lived during the reign of King Gwanggaeto of Korea at the end of the 4th century, and it is known that his clan was a powerful clan in Goguryeo that served the kings of Goguryeo for generations and was responsible for the governance of his hometown, North Buyeo.
