Also called plasma cells. Lymphocyte cells that produce various immunoglobulins. They are the main arm of humoral immunity. They are found in large numbers in lymph nodes stimulated by antigens, and often appear in granulation tissue of chronic inflammation. The cytoplasm is strongly basophilic, and the nucleus is circular and wheel-like, and is eccentrically located. They are 2 to 3 times larger than lymphocytes. The cytoplasm contains a large amount of RNA. When viewed under an electron microscope, the cytoplasm is rich in rough endoplasmic reticulum.
