National people - Kunishu
〘 noun 〙 (also "kunishu")① People of a province. Residents of a provincial government territory. Kokunin.② In the Middle Ages, among the retainers of a shugo daimyo, local warriors of that territory. ※Kitano Shake Nikki - September 14, 1493 (Meiō 2) "When Furuichi entered Yamashiro Province , a great battle ensued . Two hundred kokushu were killed ."③ Another name for a kuni-mochi daimyo in the Edo period.④ A term used in Edo and other places to refer to local samurai. ※Sharakuhon Tatsumi no Sono (1770) "They appeared to be kokushu, wearing flower-coloured kosode with light yellow linings and yellowed underwear that had been washed and peeled off."⑤ People from the same hometown. Also a term used to refer to people from their hometown in a city. Country people. [Nippo Jisho (1603-04)]
