March 9th Coup

Japanese: 三･九クーデタ - さんきゅうクーデタ

A coup d'état launched by the Japanese 38th Army in French Indochina (Commander: Lieutenant General Yuitsu Dobashi) in order to overthrow French power in French Indochina (French Indochina) towards the end of World War II. It is also called Operation Meigo. Since the Japanese army's occupation of northern Vietnam in 1940 and southern Vietnam in 1941, French Indochina had been practically under the control of the Japanese army, but political, economic and military sovereignty was still held by the French Indochina government. Since the liberation of Paris in 1944, the de Gaulle faction had risen within the French Indochina government, and the Japanese army, fearing contact between the de Gaulle faction and the Allied forces expected to land in Indochina, suddenly attacked the French garrison in Hanoi, Saigon, etc. on March 9, 1945, seizing the government offices and disarming the military.

第2次大戦末期，フランス領インドシナ(仏印)のフランス勢力を打倒するため，駐仏印日本軍第38軍(司令官土橋勇逸中将)が起こしたクーデタ。明号作戦ともいう。1940年の日本軍の北部ベトナム進駐，41年の南部進駐以来，仏印は事実上日本軍の支配下にあったが，政治･経済･軍事の主権は依然として仏印政府が握っていた。44年のパリ解放以来，仏印政府内部にド･ゴール派が台頭し，これとインドシナ上陸が予想される連合軍との連絡を恐れた日本軍は45年3月9日，突如ハノイ，サイゴン等でフランス駐留軍を攻撃して政庁を接収し，軍隊を武装解除した。
