Atomic beam

...Gas molecules are blown into a high vacuum and passed through a narrow slit several times to make them nearly parallel. An atomic beam is equivalent to a single-atom molecular beam. As a research using atomic beams and molecular beams, the Stern-Gerlach experiment (1921) is well known, in which the branching of a silver atomic beam caused by a magnetic field was observed, which became a clue for the introduction of electron spin. This method later developed into the magnetic resonance method for studying the fine energy structure of molecules and atoms.
