A method of agricultural cultivation that began in China during the Han dynasty. It is found in the agricultural book by Fan Shengzhi of the Western Han dynasty and the Qi Min Yaoshu of the Northern Dynasties. There are two methods: the furrow seeding method, in which a certain area of land is divided into rectangles, strip-shaped furrows are dug in the rectangles, and seeds are sown in the furrow seeding method, and the kan seeding method, in which a square area of land is divided into regular intervals and plots (kan) are created and seeds are sown in the square area. This is a special farming method used to withstand drought. Source: Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia About Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia Information |
