A British film company that has become synonymous with horror movies. It produces a wide variety of films, including not only horror movies but also period pieces (costume plays), science fiction, war movies, and mystery stories. The mainstream is what might be called fantasy, and it could be said that these became hits due to their horror and horror aspects. In 1934, William Hines and his partner Enric Carreras founded Hammer Productions (and the distribution company Exclusive Films), named after his stage name as an amateur actor, Will Hammer.

怪奇映画の代名詞にすらなっているイギリスの映画会社。その製作内容は，怪奇映画のみならず，時代物(コスチューム･プレイ)，SF，戦争映画，推理物など多種多様である。主流は，いわば伝奇物で，それが怪奇･恐怖寄りの方向でヒットしたといえるだろう。1934年にウィリアム･ハインズが，パートナーのエンリック･カレラスとともに，アマチュア俳優当時の芸名ウィル･ハマーから名をとったハマー･プロ(および配給会社のエクスクルーシブ･フィルムズ)を設立した。
