This hot spring is located in Ginzanshinhata, Obanazawa City, Yamagata Prefecture. In the mountain valley east of Obanazawa City, on both banks of the Ginzan River, inns reminiscent of Western-style buildings from the Taisho period stand side by side, retaining the atmosphere of a hot spring resort. It is said to have been discovered by miners from the Nobezawa (Nobezawa) Silver Mine, which flourished during the Keicho and Kanei eras (1596-1644). The spring contains salt and sulfur, and the temperature is 55-63°C. Nearby are Omokageen Garden, the remains of the silver mine, Shiragin Falls, and the Ginzan Ski Resort. There is a bus service from Shinjo Station or Oishida Station on the Ou Main Line, with a transfer at Obanazawa. [Nakagawa Shigeru] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
