...Humayun died soon after returning to the throne, so Akbar became emperor at the tender age of 13. At this time, the remnants of the Sur dynasty, which had driven Humayun out of India, were still powerful, and their leading general was the Hindu Hemu, who took advantage of the chaos following Humayun's death to temporarily occupy Delhi and Agra. In November 1556, the Mughal army defeated Hemu's army at Panipat near Delhi, marking the beginning of Akbar's rule.
