Kinkel, Klaus
Born December 1936. Mettinger. German politician. Studied at the University of Thuringia, the University of Bonn, and the University of Cologne, and became a lawyer and doctor of law. In 1970, he became a member of the private staff of Interior Minister H. Genscher in the Brandt Cabinet, and when Genscher became Foreign Minister in 1974, he moved to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he served as Chief Cabinet Secretary and other positions. In 1979, he became the first civilian to be appointed Federal Intelligence Chief, and made a distinguished contribution to the crackdown on East German spies. In 1982, he became Deputy Minister of Justice, and in January 1991, Minister of Justice. In May 1992, after Genscher resigned as Foreign Minister, he became Foreign Minister.
