Abbreviation of sympathizer. It appeared in the early 19th century as a term to refer to someone who agreed with a particular political faction. Later, from around the 1920s, when revolutionary vanguard parties were formed in various countries, the term came to refer to outside collaborators who resonated with the party's ideology and policies and were willing to cooperate in concrete actions, but who were still clearly distinguished from party members. It can be said to be the product of the contradiction between the purity of a revolutionary party and the task of organizing a large number of people. Today, the term is used in a form close to its original meaning. [Yazawa Shujiro] Source: Shogakukan Encyclopedia Nipponica About Encyclopedia Nipponica Information | Legend |
シンパサイザーsympathizer(同調者)の略。
