Kondo Mantaro

Japanese: 近藤万太郎 - こんどうまんたろう

1883-1946 An agricultural scientist from the Taisho to Showa periods.
Born on September 21, 1883. After studying abroad at the Agricultural University of Berlin and other institutions, he became the first director of the Ohara Agricultural Research Institute (later the Ohara Agricultural Research Institute) in 1914. He was known for his research on seed science and crop science, particularly grain storage. He became a member of the Japan Academy in 1946. He passed away on November 7, 1946, aged 64. He was from Okayama Prefecture and graduated from Tokyo Imperial University. His pen name was Ogimura. His works include "Japanese Agricultural and Forestry Seed Science" and "Rice Storage."

明治16年9月21日生まれ。ベルリン農科大などに留学後,大正3年大原奨農会農業研究所(のち大原農業研究所)初代所長となる。種子学や作物学,とくに穀物の貯蔵の研究で知られる。昭和21年学士院会員。昭和21年11月7日死去。64歳。岡山県出身。東京帝大卒。号は扇村。著作に「日本農林種子学」「米穀の貯蔵」など。
