A deciduous shrub of the Caprifoliaceae family (APG classification: Caprifoliaceae). It grows to 1-2 meters tall. From May to July, one or two flowers bloom at the tips of the branches. The ovary is inferior, two-lobed, and cylindrical. The fruit dehisces, producing a seed with a narrow wing on one side. It resembles the genus Deutzia in terms of the color of the flower, the anther stamens, and the fused calyx lobes, but it belongs to the genus Deutzia in terms of the way the ovules are attached, and the shape of the ovary and fruit. The name means Deutzia with pale yellow flowers. It is endemic to Japan, distributed from the southern Tohoku region to the Chubu region, and grows at relatively high altitudes in mountainous areas (1,500-2,000 meters).
