Amihiki Mikuriya - Abiko no Mikuriya

Japanese:
Amihiki Mikuriya - Abiko no Mikuriya

A mikuriya (kitchen) in the territory of the Naizenshi (feudal governor) in Izumi Province. Its central area was Abiko, now in Izumi-otsu City, Osaka Prefecture, and its territory extended to the vicinity of Kogino-sho (Kaizuka City), Tsuruhara-sho, and Sano-sho (Izumisano City). Already in the early Heian period, 50 yotei (official retainers) were officially recognized, and the so-called Engi mikuriya reorganization order also recognized it as an old mikuriya. At the end of the Heian period, it is said that 165 cho of exempted land was solicited from all over Izumi Province, and the basis of its development was the trend of Izumi Province's wealthy tato (tatoru), who were "partly devoted to fishing," to advance into the fishing industry (Izumi Province Fuan, 1012). However, from the Kamakura period onwards, there were constant disputes with the lords and land stewards of neighbouring manors, and it is known that the non-land land, which had been settled at 65 cho during the Shoji period (1199-1201), was also encroached upon by the land steward of Chikagi Manor. It is assumed that Amihiki Mikuriya had strong fishing rights over the various ports along the coast of Izumi Province, but there are no historical documents that show the specifics of their fishing activities, and it can only be assumed that the fact that Sano fishermen went out to fish in the western part of the country from the end of the Middle Ages onwards is a continuation of the tradition of privileged activities of the Mikuriya fishermen.
