…A type of gambling in which the organizer sells a large number of lottery tickets and pays the remainder of the proceeds, minus commission and winnings, to the winner of the lottery. In English, it is called lottery, a collective noun of lot (lottery, luck). Lotteries have long been used to predict fortune and luck, and are still used today to select jurors for trials.
