It is enshrined in the second shrine (Ninomiya) of Niutsuhime Shrine (Engi-shiki no Myojin Taisha, formerly Kanpei Taisha, World Heritage Site) located in Kamino Amano, Katsuragi-cho, Ito-gun, Wakayama Prefecture, and is a child deity born to Niu Myojin (Niutsuhime no Mikoto) of the first shrine (Ichinomiya). It is also called Koya Myojin or Koya Mikogami. When Kukai founded Mount Koya in 816 (Kōnin 7), he transformed into a hunter with two black and white dogs, handed over the land of Koya to Kukai, and had the dogs guide him, hence the name. This is also said to be the origin of the shrine being the guardian deity of Mount Koya.
