It is a translation of the English term ecumenism or ecumenical movement, and is also known as the "world church movement." It is a movement to unify the Christian world, which has split into many denominations over its long history, and was led by Protestants and became fully operational from the 20th century onwards. The turning point was the holding of the World Mission Congress in Edinburgh in 1910 and the formation of the World Council of Churches (WWC) in 1948. The Catholic side also set the goal of church unification at the Second Vatican Council, and in 1965 the mutual excommunication with the Eastern Orthodox Church (which had existed since 1054) was lifted. →Related topics Anglican Church | Christianity | Schism Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
