A district and former town name located almost in the center of Gamagori City, southern Aichi Prefecture. During the Edo period, it flourished as a fishing town known as "Mitani Senken," and was also famous for its shipping industry. After the Meiji period, with the advent of motor ships, the town switched to weaving, and became a producer of Mikawa cotton. Since the hot springs were developed in 1954, a hot spring inn town has appeared in the eastern hills, and together with Nishiura Onsen, it has become the base of Mikawa Bay Quasi-National Park.
