This is a stone tool culture thought to be the oldest in the New World, widespread in both North and South America, mainly in western North America. It was strongly advocated by AD Krieger, RS McNish, I. Routh, and others, and many researchers accept it in light of current knowledge. It is characterized by large core tools, pebble tools, scrapers, etc., and the stone tool production techniques are similar to those of the Early and Middle Paleolithic cultures of the Old Continent. Animal bones have also been found, but no clear remains are available. It is said to date from 40,000 to 30,000 years ago, but carbon-14 dating of strata associated with stone tools has been confirmed only at a few sites, such as those in the Ayacucho Basin in Peru.

北アメリカ西部を中心に，南北両アメリカに広く分布する新大陸最古の文化と考えられる石器文化。A.D.クリーガー，R.S.マクニッシュ，I.ラウスらにより強く提唱され，現在の知見に照らし，受け入れる研究者が多い。特徴は大型の石核石器，礫器，スクレーパーなどで，石器製作技法のうえからは旧大陸の前期･中期旧石器文化のそれに似ている。獣骨なども共伴しているが，明確な遺構は欠如している。年代は4万～3万年前といわれるが，確実に石器と共伴する地層の炭素14法による年代が得られているのは，ペルーのアヤクチョ盆地の諸遺跡など少数の遺跡に限られる。
