In Japan, it is commonly called Latin music or Central and South American music. When Europeans from Spain, Portugal, France, and other countries invaded the Americas and brought Africans to work as slaves, the music of the indigenous peoples (Indians), European music, and African music collided and fused in various ways to create the numerous musical styles collectively known as Latin American music. This can be broadly divided into two groups: Mestizo and Mulatto. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
