A history book of the Ryukyu Kingdom compiled between 1743 and 1745 (Kanpo 3 and Enkyo 2). This book is made up of 22 main volumes and 4 supplementary volumes, while the outer volume is made up of 3 main volumes and 1 supplementary volume. Written entirely in Chinese, it is the representative official history of the Ryukyu Kingdom. The outer volume is particularly known as the "Iro Setsuden." It contains records of not only the deeds of the kings and national affairs, but also records of everything in the universe, and is a useful resource for research in many areas, including history, folklore, and folk tales. After the compilation was completed, articles were continued to be written, reaching as far as 1876 (Meiji 9). The work was carried out by the Shuri Royal Court's Genealogy Office, and historians who had studied in China were mobilized. Kyuyo is a complimentary name for the Ryukyu Kingdom, and is used in the same way that Nagasaki is called Kyo.
