Sengoku daimyo of the Boso region. Seiwa Genji. It is said that the clan began when Nitta Yoshishige's son, Yoshitoshi, lived in Satomi-go, Usui-gun, Kozuke Province (Usui-gun, Gunma Prefecture) and called himself the Satomi clan. In the late 15th century to early 16th century, Satomi Yoshizane pacified Awa Province and established his base in Tateyama. He then advanced into Kazusa and the Miura Peninsula, solidifying his position as a Sengoku daimyo. Yoshizane's great-grandson Yoshitaka and his son Yoshihiro allied with Ashikaga Yoshiaki, a descendant of the Koga kubo and known as Oyumigosho, to oppose the Later Hojo clan, but in 1538 (Tenbun 7) and 1564 (Eiroku 7), they fought against the Later Hojo clan at Konodai, Shimousa (Ichikawa City, Chiba Prefecture), but were defeated and retreated. After that, during the reign of Yoshiyasu, Toyotomi Hideyoshi granted them 92,000 koku of land in Awa Province, and after the Battle of Sekigahara (1600), Tokugawa Ieyasu granted them an additional 30,000 koku of land in Hitachi Province. However, during the reign of his son Tadayoshi, Okubo Tadachika was found guilty in connection with a corruption scandal involving Okubo Nagayasu, and was implicated in the crime. He was reduced to a fief of 30,000 koku in Hoki, and the family line died out without an heir.
