Ruins in northeastern Turkey. Located near the border with Georgia and Armenia. In the 10th century, it replaced Kars as the capital of the Bagratid Kingdom of Armenia and developed. It became the seat of the Armenian Orthodox Church and many churches were built, including St. Gregory's Church and the cathedral. In the 11th century, it came under the control of the Seljuk Turks and parts of the church were converted into Islamic temples.
