A Bengali daily newspaper published in Calcutta. Its Bengali pronunciation is Anondbajar Potrika. Its circulation is 376,646 (1978), making it the largest in India. It was first published on March 13, 1922, with the aim of supporting and promoting the Gandhian line in the national movement. The entire page of the first issue was printed in red ink, as a government-run English newspaper warned it was a "danger signal." By 1931, circulation had reached 3,000 copies (the largest of any Bengali daily), and by April 1935, it had reached 43,350 copies, making it the largest daily newspaper in India.
