A small group of Manobo people living in the mountains of South Cotabato Province on the island of Mindanao in the Philippines. They live in three caves located at an altitude of about 1,200 meters. In 1966, a Manobo hunter named Dafaru came into contact with them, which led to an academic research team organized by Manuel Elizalde Jr., National Presidential Advisor for Ethnic Minority Affairs, to investigate the area in June 1971. Through this investigation, the existence of the Tasaday was made public for the first time. At the time, the population was only 27 people. Before coming into contact with Dafaru, the Tasaday were isolated from civilization and lived as gatherers. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
