Shinto Daikyo - Shinto Taikyo

Japanese:
Shinto Daikyo - Shinto Taikyo

One of the Shinto religious organizations. Before 1940 (Showa 15), the sect's name was "Shinto (Honkyoku)." When a series of Shinto sects became independent, "Shinto (Honkyoku)" was formed in 1886 (Meiji 19) to bring together churches that had not yet become independent. The first chief priest was Inaba Masakuni (1834-1898), who had served as a senior councilor at the end of the Edo period and as chief priest of the Shinto Secretariat after the Meiji Restoration. After that, the chief priests were people of samurai and noble families, such as Inaba Masayoshi (1848-1902, 5th lord of Tateyama Domain), Honda Yasushige (1835-1912, 14th lord of Zeze Domain), and Hase Nobunari (former nobleman). After Kanzaki Issaku (1867-1938), who was a Shinto priest, became the 5th chief priest, some doctrinal refinement was made. In 1940, the name was changed to the current Shinto Daikyo. Even after World War II, it continues to function as the administrative office for Shinto churches across the country. The headquarters is in Nishi-Azabu, Minato-ku, Tokyo. There are 52 shrines, 94 churches, 42 missionary stations, 517 teachers, and 23,782 believers (Religious Yearbook, 2014 edition).
