A Hong Kong private airline. Its airline code is CX. It operates routes to major cities in Southeast Asia, Oceania, Europe, and North America, and is also expanding its business to China. It has close ties with Japan, and began flying to Tokyo in 1959, as well as Osaka and Fukuoka. Founded in 1946, it began operating cargo-only flights to Shanghai and Sydney, absorbed Hong Kong Airways in 1959, and when it increased its capital in 1970 and 1971, a Hong Kong subsidiary of the British group John Swire & Son Ltd. held about 60% of the shares.
