Hani people (Hani tribe) - Hanizoku (English spelling) Hā ní zú
One of China's minority groups. Population: 1,255,000 (1990). Belongs to the Yi branch of the Tibeto-Burman language family. Lives in the mountainous region of southern Yunnan, centered around the Ailao and Mengle mountains. The Hani have many regional variations, but can be broadly divided into three regions based on their dialects: the Hani group found in the Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture, the Biyo group and Honi group in the Simao area centered around Mojiang, and the Aini group in the Xishuangbanna area. The group that migrated south to Southeast Asia is known as the Akha people.

中国の少数民族の一つ。人口約125万5000(1990)。チベット・ビルマ語族のイ(彝)語系支派に属する。雲南省南部哀牢山と蒙楽山を中心とする山岳地帯に居住する。ハニ族は地域的偏差に富むが,方言からは3地域に大別できる。すなわち,紅河ハニ族イ族自治州に分布する〈ハニ〉系,墨江を中心とする思茅地区の〈ピヨ(碧約)〉系,〈ホニ(豪尼)〉系,シーサンパンナ(西双版納)地区の〈アイニー(僾尼)〉系である。なお東南アジアに南下した一派はアカAkha族として知られている。
