A shrub of the Linaceae family cultivated for ornamental purposes. It is native to eastern India and southern China. It was introduced to Japan in the early Meiji period, but is not widely cultivated. The genus name Reinwardtia is named after the German scientist KGK Reinwart. It is a small shrub that grows to about 70-100 cm in height, with elliptical, obovate, entire leaves, and yellow flowers 4-5 cm in diameter that bloom singly or in clusters of several flowers at the top of the stem from winter to spring. アマ科の低木で観賞用に栽植される。原産地はインド東部から中国南部。日本へは明治初期に渡来しているが,あまり栽培されていない。属名のReinwardtiaはドイツの科学者ラインバルトK.G.K.Reinwartにちなむ。高さ70~100cmくらいになる小低木で,楕円状倒卵形の全縁葉をつけ,冬から春へかけて直径4~5cmの黄色花を茎頂部に単生,または数輪を集散状に咲かせる。熱帯域の山地原産の植物で,どちらかといえば夏は冷涼な気候を好むが,性質は強く,栽培は容易である。
