Japanese: キバナノアマナ - きばなのあまな

A beautiful yellow-flowered perennial plant of the lily family that blooms in the early spring in the fields of Hokkaido (illustration). It is widely distributed in the cool temperate and subarctic zones of Eurasia, and in Japan it is found in Honshu and Shikoku, but is very rare outside of northeastern Japan. The bulb is ovate and 1 cm in diameter. A single leaf develops above ground level and is linear. In early spring, a single flower stalk grows, with an umbel at the top. The flower stalk is 15-22 cm tall and bears 5-10 flowers. The flower stalk grows in a fascicle and is surrounded by two bracts of unequal size. The closely related genus Lloydia differs in that the bracts are spaced apart.

北海道の原野で春一番を飾る，黄花の美しいユリ科の多年草（イラスト）。ユーラシアの冷温帯，亜寒帯に広く分布し，日本では本州，四国にも産するが東北日本以外ではごくまれである。鱗茎は卵形，直径1cm。葉は地表面に1枚だけ展開し，線形。春先1本の花茎を伸ばし，頂端に散形花序をつける。花茎は高さ15～22cmで，5～10個の花をつける。花柄は束生し大きさの不ぞろいな2枚の苞葉につつまれる。近縁のチシマアマナ属Lloydiaは，苞葉が離れてつく点で異なる。
