In a broad sense, it refers to a style of writing that is not based on the colloquial system of the time, but is based mainly on the system of written language of the previous era, while in a narrow sense, it refers to a style of writing that is based mainly on the language system of the mid-Heian period. Depending on the terminology, style, and notation, it is classified into Japanese texts, Chinese readings, mixed Japanese and Chinese, variant Chinese texts, sorou texts, and ordinary texts.
