…The oldest almanac covering social events in general is the Annual Register, edited by E. Burke in 1759, followed by the Almanach de Gotha (1764), which listed genealogies of European kings and nobles and statistics for each country. From the 19th century onwards, so-called general almanacs that covered a wide range of fields, both statistically and historically, began to appear, with Whittaker's Almanack (first published in 1869) being particularly well-known. In the United States, the World Almanac, the Americana Annual, and the International Yearbook are also well-known. …
